2019/20 Year in Review

A month later and the news still hurts us all here at Clemson Rocket Engineering. We were very saddened to hear that the 2020 Spaceport America Cup was cancelled, as we were on track to have one of the most successful years in club history. From optimizing the strength and weight of our body tubes, to testing our first successful deployable payload, and using our first ever RF transparent body tube, we were ready to put Clemson Rocket Engineers on the map. The only reason, however, that we were so confident going into this years competition, was all thanks to the initiative of this years leadership to host the clubs first ever design reviews. The 2019/20 team raised the bar high for future Clemson Rocket Engineering teams, but we will undoubtedly continue to raise the bar even higher in the years to come.

With plans in place to reorganize our design reviews in the coming year based on constructive criticism from faculty at the university, this next year is very promising. While we have yet to decide what category we will be competing in, in the 2021 Spaceport America Cup, we have full intentions to compete in the 2021 Argonia Cup. With this replacing our former "Prometheus" Rocket, we believe that this competition will add a little extra motivation to the team of new members to manufacture a truly incredible experimental sounding rocket. Besides the change in design review format, and introductory level rocket, the team also intends to expand its horizons with a once again increasing budget. Due to the pandemic that has devastated the world, the Clemson University Student Government has allowed any remaining money previously allotted to teams to roll over to the coming academic year. With this increased budget, we have decided to encourage any member to begin his/her own rocket related project, hoping to see rewards from some of our most creative members.

Although the club will come back stronger than ever for the 2021 Spaceport America Cup, there are a few members who will not get to see all of their hard work come to fruition this summer. We would like to extend our gratitude to an incredible group of students who collectively have invested unthinkable amounts of time into this club, so that it could become what it is today. To Cam, Christian, Dove, Billings, Dhruval, Graham, Dave, and any others graduating, we would like to wish you all well in your future endeavors. You all have given so much to this club, and for that we are all incredibly grateful. I believe I speak for the club when I say, any one of us would be extremely lucky to work with one of you again in the future.

To all moving on to bigger and better things, never forget who you are;

Until our paths cross again,

Your 2019 Clemson Rocket Engineering team
